Bear Chasing Bears Away? (24-03-2008)

A relatively quiet day on Monday with only a handful of Asian markets open for trading as Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand were still closed for the Easter celebrations. Those that were open were mixed, with Taiwan soaring, Japan treading water and Hong Kong retreating, while the dollar strengthened and the price of oil hovered around $101 per barrel.

European markets were also closed for Easter and markets in the U.S. were looking at a positive trading day, as it looked like JPMorgan might be offering to buy Bear Stearns shares at five times the price that was agreed last Monday.
