Bigger than expected trade gap in the Eurozone (Reuters) (19-03-2008)

BRUSSELS, March 19 (Reuters) - The European Union statistics office has announced a surprise widening of the trade deficit for the month of January, which doubled from December of last year.

According to Eurostat, the non-seasonally adjusted trade gap in the 15 member states rose sharply to €10.7 billion euros from the 4.1 billion in December, while Reuters polled economists had been expecting the reading to be no more than €5 billion.
