Dollar gains against the Yen in Asia (AP)  (04-04-2008)

TOKYO (AP) -- The dollar advanced against the yen in Asia Friday in spite of a drop in Japanese stocks as some traders bought in anticipation of U.S. jobs data due later in the day coming in better than expected.

The dollar was trading at 102.62 yen mid-afternoon in Tokyo, up from 102.35 yen late Thursday in New York. The euro fell to $1.5660 from $1.5679.

Against other currencies, the dollar was mixed. It rose 0.91 percent against Philippine peso to 41.725 while dropping 0.12 percent against South Korean won to 974.40.
