Investors focusing on US bank earnings (AP) (19-01-2011)

NEW YORK (AP) – Later today, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Bank of New York Mellon and U.S. Bancorp will be releasing their results. Investors are hoping for a show of improvement in the form of less money set aside to cover loan losses.

Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase have reported stronger earnings after loan losses declined.

Traders will also pay attention to technology stocks following solid earnings from Apple and IBM late Tuesday.

Ahead of the opening, Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 8 points, or 0.1 percent, at 11,819. S&P 500 futures are up less than a point at 1,295. Nasdaq 100 futures are up 3, or 0.1 percent, at 2,334.
